CPI(M) Worker Killed In Maldah
COMRADE Dublu Rishi, a CPI (M) worker was gunned down and killed late in the evening of May 14 at Maldah town. Comrade Dublu who was 33 years of age, had come back to his residence in the vicinity of the B M Road after taking part in the victory procession taken out by the Left Front earlier in the day.
As he moved out of his residence after taking an evening meal, he was repeatedly shot by assassins who had been lying in wait for him in the bush nearby.
Comrade Dublus dying cry brought out his young wife, his son and daughter. Before their horrified eyes, Comrade Dublu merely managed to mumble the name of the leader of the pack of criminals who had killed him, before succumbing to his injuries in a pool of spreading blood.
The person named by the dying Comrade is one Swapan Barman, a Trinamul Congress activist who had threatened Comrade Dublu with dire consequences if the latter took an active part in the election campaign of the CPI (M) candidates. Comrade Dublu patently chose to rubbish the threat, and died a martyrs death. No arrests could yet be made as we file this report.
News has also reached us about a near-fatal attack on a CPI (M) worker, Khaliq Ansari at Taltala in central Kolkata by known criminals under the patronage of the Trinamul Congress, which left Khaliq with parts of his left hand slashed off. Trinamul Congress goondas have also carried out attacks on CPI (M) workers in the Rajarhat area of the district of north 24 Parganas.
