DYFI To Observe Communal Harmony Week
THROUGH
a statement issued from New Delhi on November 15, the central executive committee (CEC) of the Democratic Youth
Federation of India (DYFI) has informed about its resolve to observe the week
from December 1 to 7 as Communal
Harmony Week across the country. During this week, different units of
the DYFI will carry out campaigns and organise activities in defence of
secularism and communal harmony.
The
DYFI has taken this decision in the backdrop of the Gujarat carnage and the
repeated attempts by the Sangh Parivar to stoke communal passions in our
country. The genocide in Gujarat, in which the RSS-VHP-Bajrang Dal goons carried
out organised attacks on members of the minority community and their properties,
with the full connivance of the central and state governments, was unprecedented
in the history of our country. Since then ---whether it be Modi’s so-called Gaurav
Yatra, Bal Thackeray call for formation of Hindu suicide squads or
Singhal’s call for repeating Gujarat across the country --- there have been
constant attempts to further the communal divide in order to suit the sinister
designs of the Sangh Parivar.
To
the DYFI, particularly alarming in this context was the VHP plan to organise a Vijay
Yatra in Gujarat. This was to be a part of the VHP plan to celebrate
December 6, tenth anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid, as Vijay
Diwas all over India. Saying that
this was a calculated move to shatter the fragile peace in Gujarat, the DYFI has
welcomed the Election Commission’s directive to stop this yatra.
The
DYFI CEC also deplored the Sangh Parivar, including the VHP, for once again
launching a personal attack on the chief election commissioner on most
objectionable lines.
Today
the RSS and its outfits have intensified their communal campaign which, while
showing the desperation of the fascistic formation in the face of popular
discontent, also poses a grave threat to out society. This threat can be met
only by mobilizing of the vast majority of our country’s people who stand in
favour of secularism and communal harmony. It is in this direction that the DYFI
has taken a step by deciding to observe a communal harmony week. (INN)
