EC Alerted By Left Front

BAIDYANATH Majumder, convenor, Tripura Left Front Committee and state secretary CPI(M) has faxed two letters to J M Lyngdoh, Chief Election Commissioner on February 4 informing him of the deep nexus between the outlawed ISI-backed NLFT insurgent group and the Congress-INPT combine in the Tripura assembly elections.

In his second letter, while detailing the incidents of killing, kidnapping, arson, intimidation etc being resorted to by the extremists since the declaration of the poll schedule on January 11, Majumder demanded immediate deployment of adequate armed forces, including Army to combat the insurgent forces in the state. He also wanted the sealing of the entire 856 km long Indo-Bangladesh border so that the anti-national elements from the neighbouring country cannot make their way into Tripura to vitiate the peaceful election process.

Majumder has also called for an immediate inquiry into the anti-national activities of the Congress-INPT and steps to ensure that the democratic poll process is not vitiated. A copy of this letter has also been sent to the deputy prime minister and union home minister L K Advani.

The Congress party-Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) combine and ISI backed outlawed NLFT insurgents, Majumder said in his letter, “have direct nexus and the combine is taking the help of NLFT insurgents in the ensuing Tripura Legislative election.”

The letter details that in August 2001, some Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council Executives Members belong to INPT and some other INPT leaders sent as many as 64 students of different Degree colleges of Agartala and Tripura Engineering College to NLFT camp in Chittagong Hills Track, Bangladesh for undergoing arms and explosive training with a declared objective of overthrowing the elected state government of Tripura. A conspiracy case against them under various sections of IPC and Arms and Explosive Act is pending before the sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate, Amarpur, South Tripura District and the police has already filed chargesheet in this case.

One of the accused in this case of conspiracy against the State, Rajeswar Debbarma of INPT has been nominated as Congress-INPT combine’s candidate for 12-Takarjala (Scheduled Tribe Reserved) assembly constituency.

On February 1, while some of the accused in the case of conspiracy against the State were coming from Amarpur SDJM’s court after getting bail, Nagendra Jamatia, MLA of INPT and a Congress-INPT combine candidate for 42- Ampinagar (Scheduled Tribe Reserved) assembly constituency took them to Old Kasku area, Taidu, South Tripura district and held a secret meeting with the accused persons. Thereafter, the accused persons started terrorising the people to work for INPT candidate.

The letter also pointed out another case. Narendra Chandra Debbaramahas been nominated as Congress-INPT combine candidate for 18 Charilam (Scheduled Tribe Reserved) assembly constituency. Debbarma was a former station director of All India Radio, Agartala. During his tenure as a station director of AIR, he illegally and secretly made several trips to NLFT camp inside Bangladesh territory. During the months of October and December last year he made two trips inside Bangladesh, it is reported. The state police and different central government security agencies informed the union home ministry about his illegal trips to NLFT hideout  inside Bangladesh.

The letter adds that Ananta Debbarma of INPT had been nominated as Congress-INPT combine candidate for 23 Ramchandraghat (Scheduled Tribe Reserved) assembly constituency. He is a frequent visitor to NLFT camp inside Bangladesh territory. The state police and different central government secret agencies working in the state also filed a report to the union home ministry about his anti-national activities. (INN)
