THE All India
Road Transport Workers’ Federation (AIRTWF) has decided to convene a national
convention to chalk out a programme of action by private bus and mini bus
workers at Kolkata on July 22. The road transport workers throughout the country
are facing a serious crisis due to the wrong policies of the central and several
state governments.
The meeting also
decided to organise conventions of public transport workers at Chennai in August
2003, of light vehicle workers including auto rickshaw and taxi workers at
Kozhikkode in September 2003, and goods vehicle workers including lorry workers
at Siliguri.

general secretary K K Divakaran presented a report in the meeting that was held
at Thiruvananthapuram on June 17. West Bengal transport minister Subhash
Chakraborty and Syamal Chakraborty also spoke on the occasion. It is also
decided to convene a meeting of road transport workers of the SAARC countries in
Nepal.
