State AIAWU Elects New President
THE state working committee of Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union, affiliated to the All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU), met at Chandigarh on September 23, in the presence of AIAWU joint secretary Suneet Chopra. The meeting voted unanimously to remove Chand Singh Chopra from the post of president and replaced him with Ram Singh Nurpuri, the present vice president, who is now the acting president.
The
union noted its successful campaign on agricultural labourers’ demands and
submitted a membership figure of 10,000 for the year 2003-04.
The union urged the agricultural labourers of Punjab to help in mobilising the masses, in fund collection, and provide young volunteers for making the seventh all-India conference of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) a success.
The next meeting of the Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union’s state working committee, to chalk out its programme of action, will be held at Jalandhar on October 17. (INN)
