Surjeet paying homage to Comrade Nayanar on May 19 at AKG Bhavan, where the body was first taken from the AIIMS. Other Left leaders who paid homage included A B Bardhan, Debabrata Biswas and Pankajakshan.

Comrade Nayanar's body was later taken to Kerala House. Apart from thousands of common people who poured in to pay their respects to their beloved leader, prominent political leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, K R Narayanan, H D Deve Gowda, I K Gujral, A K Antony, K Karunakaran, Shiela Dixit, Sharad Pawar, P M Sayeed, O Rajagopal and others also paid homage.
