Surprised At Mulayam’s Remarks
Harkishan
Singh Surjeet, general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has
issued the following statement on May 28, 2004:
I
WAS surprised to read the remarks made by the Uttar Pradesh chief minister and
Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav that I owed an explanation for the
“humiliation” suffered by Amar Singh at the hands of the Congress party,
when he accompanied me to Sonia Gandhi’s residence for a meeting.
The
said meeting was held against the backdrop of the significant victory of the
secular forces and the comprehensive defeat inflicted on the communal forces led
by the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. The Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok
Dal have contributed to this victory of the secular forces.
The
country wanted to see all those who contributed to the defeat of the communal
forces on a united platform. I reflected this desire, when despite the absence
of an invitation from the Congress party to them, I requested Amar Singh and
Ajit Singh to accompany me to the meeting. This gesture has been widely
appreciated. All secular minded people are desirous that all those opposed to
the BJP and its communal agenda should unitedly face the challenge posed by
these forces.
In
this ongoing battle against the communal forces, the CPI(M) will continue to
seek the support and cooperation of the Samajwadi Party.
