AIKS Demands Relief To Flood Victims
THE
All India Kisan Sabha expressed its deep sorrow at the miseries and devastation
brought upon the people of North Bihar, Assam and some districts of North Bengal
due to severe floods. Dozens of people have lost their lives. Embankments of a
number of rivers have been breached, damaging crops, houses, roads and railway
tracks at many places. A large number of livestock have been swept away. Lakhs
of people have been marooned and are waiting for rescue and relief.
The
AIKS while expressing deep sympathy with the affected families, appealed to both
the central and concerned state governments to take immediate steps on war
footing to provide relief and rescue the marooned people. Regular desilting of
riverbeds and repairing of bunds are a must to minimise the losses. Serious
negotiations are also needed to be initiated with Nepal, Bhutan and China to
find out the ways to regulate the enormous water flowing during the rainy season
by constructing dams and bunds etc. (INN)
