CPI(M) has nominated for the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections Sitaram Yechury,
Chittabrata Majumdar, and Brinda Karat. All
are members of the CPI(M) Polit Bureau. The
decision was taken in a meeting, held on the forenoon of June 28, of the
secretariat of the Bengal state unit of the CPI(M) at the Muzaffar Ahmad Bhavan
in Kolkata.
Anil
Biswas, state secretary briefed the media on the issue.
The
Bengal Left Front, approving of the choice of the Bengal CPI(M)’s nominees,
has decided to field an RSP candidate for the fourth seat.
Two
other seats are being contested. The
opposition would be expected to win at least one nomination.
The
Bengal Left Front has decided to contest the sixth seat by putting up an
independent candidate who would be able to have the confidence of the opposition
as well. The Bengal Left Front has
asked chief minister of the Left Front government, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to
look for and exercise a suitable choice.
