A FIVE-member team of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is visiting China to study the rural situation in that country, which will include the state of agriculture, conditions of the farmers, land relations, the rural public health and education system.
The team consists of:

V K Ramachandran, professor, Social Science Division, Indian Statistical
Institute, Kolkata.
Dr
Venkatesh Athreya, Programme Director, Technical Resource Centre on Food
Security, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai.
Dr
Venugopala Rao, professor, Agriculture University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh
Dr Shakthi Kak, Dean, Department of Management Studies and Information Technology, Jamia Hamdard University, Delhi.
Mahadeb
Chakraborty, Retired professor, University of Tripura.
The
team will be in China duiring August 20-30, 2005 and is planning to visit a
province which is more advanced and another province which is relatively
backward.
The study team will get a briefing in Beijing before they leave for the provincial tour. They may also have a separate day for discussions on their experience and field study with experts on their return to Beijing.
