'Enact
Women's Reservation Bill'
Memorandum
Submitted To PM
A
DELEGATION of representatives from women's organisations met the prime minister
Dr Manmohan Singh on May 19, 2006 to demand that the Women's Reservation Bill
should be enacted immediately. They submitted a memorandum on this issue.
The
prime minister assured the delegation that he would do his best to move the
legislation forward in the next session of parliament, and would convene a
meeting of the coalition partners to discuss the matter. Women's organisations
have called for a widespread movement across the country, culminating in a big
march in Delhi during the next session of parliament to ensure that the promise
made by the UPA government in the CMP is fulfilled.

delegation which met the prime minister comprised Brinda Karat, Sudha
Sundararaman (AIDWA), Mohini Giri (Guild Of Service), Jyotsna Chatterjee (JWP),
Aparna Basu (AIWO), Sarojini (SAMA), Annie Raja (NFIW), Balu Sarin (FORCES),
