No. 28 July 09, 2006 |
THE
central committee of the CPI(M) has called for observing July 18 as a day to
demand the adoption of the Scheduled Tribes (Recognition of Forest Rights) Bill,
2005. This
decision was taken at the
Hyderabad
meeting of the central committee in June. The joint select committee of
parliament has proposed important amendments to the Bill which will help ensure
the tribal people’s right to land in the forest areas.
The
campaign on July 18 should demand the adoption of the Bill incorporating the
amendments proposed by the joint select committee during the monsoon session of
parliament.
The
Party has called upon all the state units to take the message for adoption of
the Bill and its important provisions to the people particularly in the tribal
areas.
