Successful Strike By BPCL Employees

The CITU secretariat issued the following statement on September 20, 2006

CITU congratulates the employees of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd for their 48-hours successful strike in all the three refineries at Mumbai, Kochi and Numaligarh along with all the depots and administrative offices through out the country. The employees were forced to resort to strike from September 19 to voice their protest against the unilateral and discriminatory move of the management in the mater of performance incentive and bonus payment causing illogical discrimination amongst the management staff and unionised category of employees.

The management unsuccessfully tried to obtain prohibitory orders against the strikes from courts in the country. CITU condemns this action of the management and to call police and RAF in the headquarters of Eastern Region at Kolkata.

While extending its wholehearted support to the struggling employees of the BPCL, CITU expects good sense will soon prevail upon the management and urges upon the company to rectify the situation immediately by maintaining logical relativity of incentive payment amongst its employees without any discrimination failing which much vigorous trade union action may follow.
