CITU Organises Meeting In Sikkim
CITU Sikkim unit organised a successful public meeting of factory workers at Malli, South Sikkim on October 8, 2006. The public meeting was attended by Suraj Saman Pathak (MP) from Darjeeling and Tara Sudas from Kalimpong, Manoj Gupta, general secretary of Sikkim unit of CITU and its president Mani Thapa.
The public meeting was organised to give pressure to the demand presented earlier before the managements of YBL (Yuksom Breweries Ltd) owned by film star Danny Denzonpa. The main demand of the workers of the state was to enforce the minimum labour wages act in the state which was enacted last year. CITU is opposing the act implemented by state government with name of Sikkim Labour Protection Act 2006 as it lacks many of the basic principles of labour protection.
The major demands in the list includes extension of Central Trade Union Act in Sikkim.
