Nepal Agreement Welcomed
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on November 9, 2006
THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) welcomes the agreement arrived at between the Seven Party Alliance and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). The six-point agreement is an important step in the democratic transition that will be given final shape with the setting up of a constituent assembly. The 12-point agreement which was reached in December 2005 between the Seven Party Alliance and the Maoists laid the foundations for this historic breakthrough.
Both the Seven Party Alliance and the CPN(M) leadership are to be congratulated for working out this agreement.
The forces aligned to the monarchy and the USA must realise that the democratic transformation is irreversible and efforts to derail the process will not be tolerated by the people of Nepal.
