JKDYF Organises A Huge Public Meeting At Anantnag

Subir Banerjee

THE central executive committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India has given a call for a month long campaign of going to the youth in all the districts of the country from August 15 to September 15, 2007. The campaign culminated in state level and district level youth marches and demonstrations.

A huge public meeting of more than 10,000 youth was organised by Jammu & Kashmir Democratic Youth Federation at Anantnag in Kulgam district headquarters on September 1, 2007. M Y Tarigami, CPI(M) state secretary and MLA, Tapas Sinha , P Sree Ramakrishnan, general secretary and president of DYFI , Md Amin Dar, general secretary of JKDYF addressed the gathering. Tapas Sinha said that government should have a multi pronged approach to tackle the situation in Jammu & Kashmir and Indo- Pak dialogue should be continued with a result orientation. To create confidence among the people, developmental activities like building the necessary economic and social infrastructure must be given top priority and immediate measures for creating employment opportunities for Kashmir youth should be undertaken, he said.

Heartily welcoming the youth immersed in struggles, DYFI president Sree Ramakrishnan said that the promises of the prime minister regarding employment remained only on paper and have not got translated into action. He called upon the youth to launch struggles demanding fulfillment of such promises.

Speaking on the occasion, Md Amin Dar, general secretary of JKDYF said that all the governments so far at centre and state have not given any priority to employment generation which has resulted in massive increase in unemployment, leading to frustration of already overstressed youth of the state, thus diverting them into negative channels. He said youth should be considered as an asset of the nation and not a liability and for making the country’s future bright, government should on priority invest on youth and generate employment opportunities. Md Iqubal Yani conducted the stage proceeding.
