The following is the text of the congratulatory message sent by the central committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on February 25 to the central committee AKEL on the historic victory secured in the presidential elections in Cyprus.
DEAR Comrades,
The central committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is pleased to hear the news of the election of Comrade Demetris Christofias as the new president of the Republic of Cyprus. The central committee of the CPI(M) congratulates Comrade Demetris Christofias and the AKEL for this historic victory.
This comprehensive victory over the candidate supported by the right wing forces is undoubtedly a defining moment in the history of modern Cyprus.
The AKEL now has been entrusted with the onerous task of defining and deciding Cyprus's future; to search for a just and long term solution of the problem that would be acceptable to Cypriot people.
The central committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has the honour of sharing this moment of glory with the AKEL and the people of Cyprus. It conveys its warm greetings to the Cypriot people on this occasion.

We thank you very much for your warm message. We appreciate your support, which is of great importance for us.
The electoral result is a very important one for AKEL, and was the outcome of hard work. We will move forward with the vision of the reunification of our country, in order to turn it into a happy homeland for all its inhabitants, Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites.
