Ensure A Bigger Win For The LF In The Rural Polls: Yechury

During his recent visit to Bengal, Sitaram Yechury, Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M) addressed a rally of the youth in Asansol. He called upon the people to vote for the Left Front in the coming panchayat elections to keep apace and accelerate the process of development of the state.

As Bengal is the advanced bastion of the Left and showed the way to the rest of the country, one witnessed a series of conspiracies against and attacks on Bengal, said Yechury. The attempt is to weaken the Left: witness Singur, and Nandigram. The enemy would not be able to prevent the fluttering aloft of the Red flag. The people are with the Left Front in Bengal. The last assembly elections saw an overcrowding of policing efforts, a five-day voting schedule, and the presence of election officials from outside of the state. All this and more, could not prevent the Left Front from winning 235 seats in the assembly, reducing the opposition to a tiny minority.

Explaining that the third alternative being strived for at the all India level was not just an electoral front, he pointed out that it would take shape through struggles and movements on common issues. The alternative formation was imperative for a better India.

Calling upon the youth to be vocal against the anti-people policies of the Congress-led UPA government, Yechury said that 58 per cent of the human resources of this country, all less than 18 years of age, were kept deprived of education, health, and employment. The price rise has been unprecedented. An open ended license has been issued to Multi-national Corporations (MNCs) in the name of futures trade and forward trading. The central government is not willing to take effective steps against inflation because of pressure of foreign powers.

Sitaram Yechury also cautioned the youth against the danger of communalism as exemplified through the wishes being expressed publicly by the BJP-RSS combination to come to office at the centre, again. These forces are quite willing to break the nation apart in the name of communal divide and �vote bank politics.�
