BSNL Union Demands Pro-People Spectrum Policy
IN a statement issued on November 9, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Employees Union (BSNLEU) has pointed out that the issue of spectrum allocation has become controversial and various questions have been raised, particularly after sale of shares by Swan and Unitech. The sale of shares at many times the price of the 2G license brings out the lack of adequate protection to the consumers, for whose benefit the 2G spectrum was given cheap. The terms and conditions of the license should have been such that this kind of huge speculative profit is not made. Hence, the BSNLEU said, the government needs to investigate the issue of this sale and huge profits made by Swan and Unitech, and reportedly by other companies who have also received the 4th 2G license, and to make measures so that this can be prevented in future.
The union has appealed to all the BSNL workers to unite and demand for such policies and decisions from the government as may help the growth and development of the public sector telecom companies, BSNL and MTNL, and benefit the common people. (INN)
