DYFI Pays Tributes To Mumbai Terror Victims

K K Prakasan

A large number of people from various walks of life attended the condolence meeting organised by Democratic Youth Federation of India at Mira Road in the suburbs of Mumbai on November 30, 2008 and paid homage to the martyrs and victims of terrorist attacks that shook Mumbai from November 26-29.

CPI(M) Mumbai secretary, Mahendra Singh, DYFI state secretary Shailendra Kamble, Communalism Combat editor, Teesta Setalwad, well-known Urdu writer, Salam Bin Razzak, educationist Iqbal Banegar, Janata Dal (Secular) leader Kishor Samant, Maulana Shahid Rizvi, Shamim Abbas of Janwadi Lekhak Sangh and several other prominent personalities expressed deep sympathies with the families of all who were gunned down by terrorists. They also paid rich tributes to the policemen and security personnel who died fighting the terrorists.

The speakers pointed out that amongst the several diabolic intents of the murderous terrorists, an important one was to break the unity of our people along religious lines. The religious fundamentalist forces in our country also want the communal divide to deepen. Only true secularists can lead Mumbai metropolis to lasting peace and security.

DYFI leaders announced that the organisation would lead a vibrant movement of peoples unity in the coming days against terrorist and fundamentalist forces.
