Party Congress Logo Released

Aboo Backer

ON December , CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan released the logo of 20th party congress, to be held in Kozhikode in April next year. The logo, designed by R Jayakumar of Jayan Arts in Alappuza, was selected from among 152 entries by a three-member judging committee headed by renowned artist Paul Kallanode.

The judging committee opined that the logo selected was simple as well as symbolic. The logo reflected the port city of Kozhikode and the progress of voyages over the Arabian Sea. The flag of the CPI(M) is embossed on the sail of a sailing ship, which depicts the ancient port city.

Prof A K Premajam, mayor of Kozhikode, presided over the releasing function held at the NGO Union Hall in the city. T P Ramakrishnan, secretary of the CPI(M) district committee, welcomed the gathering.

R Jayakumar, who designed the logo, will be felicitated at the concluding session of the party congress.

Releasing the logo, Pinarayi Vijayan said that the state government and the ruling United Democratic Front had miserably failed to find an amicable solution to the Mullaperiyar issue. The state government is yet to present Kerala’s concerns and demands before the union government and the Supreme Court of India.  The union government could not shirk its responsibilities, he added.

Vijayan appealed to the people of Kerala as well as of Tamilnadu to isolate the forces who are trying to instigate hostility between the two states by exploiting sentiments on the dam’s issue. Both the states have long decades of close association and cooperation, which he said must not be spoiled through emotional reactions. He warned that any provocation would result in grave consequences.  The CPI(M) is the only party which has made its stand clear on the Mullapperiyar issue. The Congress and the union government are yet to make their stand clear on the issue, Vijayan pointed out.
