Come Clean on Role in CBI Investigation

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on April 14, 2013.

THE report that the status report submitted by the CBI on the coal block allocation case to the Supreme Court was scrutinised and modified after discussion with the law minister and the prime minister’s office is another glaring instance of the government’s interference in a CBI investigation.

In this case, the obvious aim is to influence the investigation in a case in which the PMO and the UPA government is directly implicated.

The government must come out with what actually transpired and who are the persons involved in this matter. Appropriate action should be taken against those involved on charges of interfering with the course of justice.

This latest instance of government misuse of the CBI only reinforces the case for strengthening the CBI’s autonomy and the need for parliamentary oversight.
