CBI Vulnerable to Govt Pressure

THROUGH a statement issued from New Delhi on May 2, All India Lawyers Union (AILU) has taken serious note of the recent episode of resignation by the additional solicitor general of India. To the AILU, this incident once again exposes the venerability of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to the pressure of and interference by the government.

The AILY statement issued by its general secretary, Som Dutta Sharma, also pointed out that the comments made by the bench of judges hearing the matter clearly amounted to an indictment of the top law officers of the government, the CBI and the law minister Ashwani Kumar.

The All India Lawyers Union has strongly demanded that the CBI must be immediately freed from the clutches of the government and constituted into an independent investigating agency so that it may investigate the sensitive corruption matters without political interference and is not used for political purposes.
