CPI(M)
Demands Cadres’ Unconditional
Release
THE
Haryana state unit of the
CPI(M) has demanded an unconditional release of the party’s
state committee
member and corporation member, Prem Chand Saini, as well as of
ten other
activists who were arrested at Kaithal over a month ago while
protesting
against the illegal dismissal of more than 500 workers of the
Maruti plant. In
a press release issued after the party state secretariat
meeting, CPI(M) state
secretary Inderjit Singh accused that the Haryana industries
minister, Randip
Surjewala, was responsible for the May 19 police
brutalities on the peaceful
protest by dismissed
workers and their family members, including aged women. One
notes that these
workers and other protestors were chased and beaten up even
while they were running
away.
CPI(M)
Central Secretariat
member Nilotpal Basu also attended the state secretariat
meeting.
The
CPI(M) state secretary
further blamed that the police has framed totally false criminal
cases against
Prem Chand Saini and others at the instructions of the
industries minister. The
party has condemned the dubious role of the chief minister, too,
for pushing hundreds
of families of young Maruti workers to the most pathetic
condition in order to
appease a multinational company. The party has described the
workers’ sufferings
as violations of not only trade union rights but of human rights
also. While
extending support to the cause of justice for workers and their
families, the CPI(M)
has appealed to all sections of the people to raise their voice
against these gross
violations of civil liberties.
