Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap

The following is the text of condolence message sent by Prakash Karat, general secretary of the Communist Party of the CPI(M) to Nguyen Phu Trọng, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam on October 5, 2013

Dear Comrade,

WE are deeply grieved to hear the news of the passing away of Comrade Vo Nguyen Giap, veteran leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Commander of the armed forces who fought for the liberation and reunification of Vietnam.

General Giap provided prolonged leadership in the struggle against the French colonial forces which resulted in the victory at Dien Bien Phu in 1954.

As the minister for defence, General Giap gave leadership to the fight against US aggression and the arduous struggle for the reunification of Vietnam.

Gen. Giap was a great patriot, ardent communist and a committed Marxist-Leninist. He was a revolutionary hero not only for the people of Vietnam but for all freedom loving and progressive people around the world.

We pay our respectful homage to this indomitable leader. On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) we convey our heartfelt condolences to you and all members of the family of Gen. Giap.
